Chez Vrony AlFresco Mountain Lunch

Welcome to Chez Vrony

After skiing on the fresh snow in the morning, when the sun is trying to break out around noon, it is almost time for a fantastic lunch!

Chez Vrony is one of my favorite restaurants on the mountain :-)

A family-owned establishment that has been there for many generations.

Zermatt the beautiful

One of my most beloved ski resorts in the world Zermatt is vibrant, sexy, so unique to me with the majestic Matterhorn peeking out at every turn.

Love walking through the village with skis on my shoulders after a day on the slopes and heading to the local après ski bar.

Zermatt is a place of many fun hot spots for après ski, fabulous restaurants, jazz, art, and plain old Tomfoolery.

Spent many a time skiing the Sunnega, Gonnergrat, and the Klein Matterhorn runs having the “occasional” Jagertee, Gluhwine at the bars on the slopes.

A schnapps at the Iglu Bar is always fun, laying out on the sundeck and relax :-)

But I always try and make my way to Chez Vrony.

The crate of wine at the entrance is simply calling my name as I’m putting my skis away.

Please wait to be seated, oh I’ll wait!! I’m enjoying this wonderful view, and I will get a beer with that.

Lunch on top of the mountain overlooking the Matterhorn is so unique, you can have a bit of romance cuddling with your loved one up in a corner or another popular crowd-pleaser is having a nice comfortable seat on the big deck enjoying some people watching, but...

I might be looking for that special "someone", who just cut me off on the slopes with me ending up in the icy powder digging my way out (let me say head first...), who I really want to meet and give him my two cents ;-)... oh there he is, by the apples and the wine....!

"Hello, my name is Nancy...I like to put my drink order in, here with you, on the rocks, I believe you are the supplier of ice on this mountain" :-)

A very surprised looking, apologetic fellow looked at me, we laughed... haven't we all cut some people off on that mountain. I think I did a couple of times...not on purpose, of course ;-)

Have a seat

What do you know a great spot on the balcony opened up, unobstructed views, perfect! Now let’s do some people watching as it’s such a lively and beautiful crowd.

Everyone is dressed up in their ski gear, sunglasses on, and faces in the sun or the menu trying to decide on what deliciousness to order.

The conversations are lively, there is a lot of laughing, clinking wine, champagne, and big beer glasses. All in all, everyone seems to have such a good time with friends, lovers, and or family.

A big “Weiss” beer and some wheat crunchy, think tick-dense always stick to your ribs sliced oven-fresh bread, yum. Prost!

I am enjoying the sight of the stunning mountain range and breathe in the fresh air with the sun touching my face.

What to have for lunch?

.

All the dishes on the menu look great and are prepared with its own organic products. They are locally sourced and the animals are grass-fed with recipes which are passed down through the generations.

My eye goes straight to the Tapas Teller, with it's homegrown locally fed, air-dried cured meat, Swiss Alpine cheese, and homemade sausage, what a treat!! Such a traditional lunch dish, very rustic and Swiss.

Looking at the wine list, I’m so tempted by the selection to have a fine Swiss local wine, the Ardévine is catching my eye…should I?

The service is exceptional; beware in high season you want to make a reservation for the outside even though the inside is beautifully decorated, cozy, and a great place to meet, you cannot miss the view looking at the Matterhorn and the surrounding mountains.

Today the air is crisp the sun is warm, no need for a blanket.

On a colder day, they will provide the sheepskin cover. When the chill happens I would trade the cold beer for a Café Vrony, whiskey and pear schnapps topped with whipped cream, yum!

Enjoyed my lunch many times over the years here in this very special spot, thank you Chez Vrony.
